Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gallagher Funeral Home and Crematory - Ball on Feb. 25, 2026.
Jimmie Netherlin, 90, passed away peacefully after a brief illness at his home in Kolin,LA on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
Born August 23, 1935, in the middle of the Great Depression, Jimmie saw many changes in our world, from living in a house without running water or lights to being able to buy everything online. Living through WWII, watching food, tire and gas rations as well as housing shortages due to soldiers stationed at Camp Livingston and Claiborne. The stories he had of these times could keep you entertained for hours.
Jimmie grew up between Tioga and Kolin. Having more important things to accomplish, he left Tioga High School in the 9th grade. He immediately went to work in the auto parts business which only served to fuel his passion for cars. He owned over 80 cars in his 90 years. He worked for Hemphen Motors, Mike Eskew and several others before moving on to other endeavors.
In 1955 he married Carol (Jack) Holston, which led to a 57-year marriage. Not long after marrying, he found himself stationed in Ft Campbell, Ky, a proud National Guard member, where he became a proficient Booray player.
Through the years Jimmie held many jobs and owned quite a few businesses. He worked a candy route, was a security guard, a deputy sheriff and eventually a school bus driver for over 30 years at Ruby Wise.
He was the owner/ Operator of the restaurant at Esler Airport and Alexandria Airport, as well as security screening and baggage delivery service at both airports. Additionally, he owned the Deville Dairy Corner, Pollock Dairy King and Sammy's Steaks and Ribs.
All of these ventures helped to fund his great addiction to "junk". His junk consisted of horses, buggies, antiques, old cars and anything odd and unusual. He and his wife travelled extensively buying unique items for his mother to sell om Main St. He loved auctions so much that he sent his daughter to auctioneer school so he could have his own auction.
His daughter, Terri Lynne, was the apple of his eye until 1996 when Blaine Thiels (aka, the Golden Child) entered the world. The rest of the world stopped turning as he devoted all his energy and passions to his only grandchild. He blessed (or cursed) Blaine with his love of horses, buggies, junk and cars. All that changed in 2023 when his great grandson Kevin was born. He was just beginning to indoctrinate Kevin at his passing. Our greatest sadness is that he won't be able to share those passions with Kevin.
Jimmie was a Baptist, attending HIS Church in Pineville.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Gallagher Funeral Home and Crematory, Pineville,LA, with his pastor, Dr Steve Speer officiating. Visitation will take place from 9:00 am until time of service. Burial will be immediately following at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers to serve will be Dustin Andrus, LC Bourn, Barry Bryant, Clinton Downs, Kenneth Downs, Jr, and Rodney Slay. Honorary pallbearers are Blaine Thiels, Houston Scott and Otto Nessmith and Kenneth Downs, Sr.
Gone before Jimmie are his wife, Carol "Jack" Netherlin, parents, James (Jim) and Myrtice Netherlin ,2 infant brothers, great granddaughter, Katherine Thiels and son in law, Kevin Thiels.
Left to carry on without him are his daughter, Terri Netherlin of Kolin, grandson, Blaine Thiels and wife Suzie, 3 grandchildren, Kevin Thiels, Houston Scott and Llydia Scott, all of Kolin.
