Jimmy Cannon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by St. John's Family Funeral Home & Crematory on Apr. 26, 2025.
Jimmy Lee Cannon, age 77, of St. Augustine, FL, passed away on April 23, 2025, at UF Shands in Gainesville. He was born in Danville, VA, to the late Jesse Walker and Virginia Elizabeth Cannon. Jimmy Lee had called St. Augustine home since 1995, having moved here from Jacksonville.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Jimmy Lee served in the Vietnam War, a time that shaped much of his life and character. After his military service, he enjoyed a long and successful career at Watkins Engineering, where he worked as a project manager until his retirement.
Jimmy Lee had a zest for life and enjoyed many activities, including golfing, riding his Harley, traveling in his motor home, and, most importantly, spending time with his beloved family and friends. He was a dedicated member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and found great joy in his faith and community.
He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Karen Brock Cannon; daughters Dana Butler (John) of Apopka, FL, and Beverly Cannon of Perry, FL; sons Dustin Cannon of Perry, FL, and Matthew Carter (Ashliegh), Michael Carter (Christy), all of St. Augustine; brothers Kenneth Cannon (Nancy) of Gallatin, TN, and Terry Cannon (Kathy) of Orlando, FL; and a legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Chase Howder, Paige King, Manden Whiddon, Lilly Anna Whitehurst, Colin Carter, Wyatt Rayfield, Daniel Carter, Morgan Carter, Gavin Carter, Caleb Carter, Rhett Cannon, and Peyton Cannon, along with great-grandchildren Luna and Riley King.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy Lee was preceded in death by his sister, Amy Summerlin.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 8250 CR 13, Hastings, FL. A visitation with the family beginning at 1:00 p.m. will precede the service. Following the service a luncheon will be provided by the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Jimmy Lee's honor to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Jimmy Lee's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Karen, Matt, and Mike, I´m deeply sorry for your loss. Jimmy Lee was one of a kind and so funny. I remember hanging out at the house on the weekends when we were younger and he would hang out by the bonfire cracking jokes with us. He will be deeply missed!
