Jimmy Darrell Childress, born December 18th, 1938, went home to be with the Lord on December 12th, 2025. Jimmy was born in Appleby, Texas, and graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1957. Jimmy served in the Naval Reserve during his senior year of high school; he also served in the US Army from January 1958 until his discharge in August 1962. He served in the 82nd and 101st Airborne divisions. He was employed in the financial services industry, retiring after 37 years as a VP / regional manager in the southeastern region. Until he retired in 1998, he was a CFP and a licensed realtor.
Jimmy was also a bivocational minister. He served as a pastor and Deacon, and in 1979 was appointed an elder in the Church of Christ. In 1998, he and his wife Lorraine became members at First Baptist Church, Woodstock, Georgia, where he taught Sunday school for 6 years. Jimmy followed the Lord. Jimmy's family and friends will remember him for his loyalty and generosity.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his father and mother, Hugh and Mamie Childress, sister Jerry Simpson, and brothers Billy and Jean Childress; and his son Kirk Childress. Jimmy is survived by his wife Lorraine of Milton, Georgia, and a daughter, Sheril Childress of Lake Wales, Florida; A stepdaughter, Debby, and husband, Reverend Steven Gibbs of Milton, Georgia; Two stepsons, David Powell and his wife, Ashley, of Natchez, Mississippi, and Dusty Powell and his wife, Donna, of Florence, Mississippi. Also, 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews; they all called him Papa Jim. Services for Mr Childress will be at Canton Funeral Home on December 17th, 2025 at 12:00 noon, prededed by visitation from 11:00am until noon. Interment will be in the Georgia National Cemetery for Veterans in Canton, GA. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Jimmy, please visit our floral store.
