Dad spent his whole life living in Plain City, Utah. He attended Weber County schools, graduating from Weber High School. This is where he met his life partner and sweetheart, Kathie.
Dad spent 40 years working for Utah Power & Light, where he worked as a lineman, troubleshooter, substation foreman, and dispatcher. Before working for Utah Power, he also spent time working for Fram Corporation. Dad also spent 22 years in the military, serving in the Army National Guard and Utah Air National Guard. He was very proud of the time that he served. In his early days with the military, he would go to cemeteries and play Taps for soldiers coming home from Vietnam who didn't make it.
Dad was a Jack of all trades. Never did anything halfway. He could build or do about anything he put his mind to, and if he didn't know it, he would figure it out. Dad got his work ethic from his mom and dad, and loved a good day's work. From a young boy farming with his grandpa and dad to running a combine through the summer months. A lot of family memories involve seeing Dad working long hours, days on end. The day-to-day job, farming, and his military obligation. But in between, Dad still always made time for family.
Dad loved spending time outdoors, skiing, boating, camping, or traveling with Mom. The hobbies Dad had were endless. The list would be too long to mention, and I don't think there was anything he hadn't tried.
For those of you who knew Dad, you knew he was a clean freak and took great pride in having everything in perfect shape and clean. Didn't matter if it was house, yard, or cars. They were spotless and clean.
In September of 1968, Dad married the love of his life, Kathie Jones. They were married for 57 years and had two sons, Bill (Karianne) East and Andy (April) East. Dad had 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. He loved every single one of them dearly. Dad was so proud of his sons and all their accomplishments in life, and loved to share and tell stories of them. One of Dad's most awakening moments was when he started getting granddaughters. Dad went from being rough and tough to having to be soft and gentle. Took some time, but the softer side of Dad emerged, and he loved those girls more than anything. Not to leave out the grandsons, he loved them just the same.
Dad is survived by his wife, Kathie; children, Bill and Andy, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his brother, Jeffrey. He is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Joyce East.
