Jimmy Lee Fowler, Sr., age 88, of Bluefield, WV, formerly of McDowell County, died on Sunday August 4, 2024 in the home of his son, Bruce, in Hardy, VA.
Born on June 23, 1936 in Thorpe, WV, he was a son of the late Boyd and Hattie Goins Fowler. He had lived in Bluefield for the past 24 years and was a member of the Bluefield Virginia Church of God. He was a disabled veteran having served in the US Air Force. He was a member of both the American Legion and the Disabled Veterans Association. He was a resident of McDowell County most of his life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Simmons Fowler; 2 brothers Billy and Tommy Fowler and 2 sisters Ruth Fowler and Barbara Music.
Survivors include: Sons: Jimmy Fowler, Jr. and wife Tammy of Pulaski, VA Bruce Fowler and wife Julie of Roanoke, VA Randall Fowler of Bluefield, WV Brothers: Kenny Fowler and wife Cricket, Jairus Fowler, Ralph Fowler and wife Kathy, Boyd Fowler, Jr. and wife Sue. Sisters: Virginia Jones, Shirley Sexton and husband F.D., Betty Camden, and Sylvia Phillips and husband Bobby. Grandchildren: Justin Fowler, Samantha Fowler, Tiffany Fowler, Kelsey Leippi, Josh Fowler, and Austin Fowler. 10 Great-Grandchildren: Sammy Fowler, Allison Fowler, Adian Poore, Robert Fowler, Emilie Fowler, Lily Fowler, Emberlyn Fowler, Charlotte Fowler, Holden Fowler and Mackenzie Wilson The family wishes to extend a heart felt thank you to the Veterans Administration in Salem Va, Gentiva Hospice care in Roanoke Va. We also wish to thank his caregiver Stephanie Arnett for the compassion and dignity she has shown him for over the past two years
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, 3431 Coal Heritage Road, Bluefield, WV with Rev. F.D. Sexton and Rev Norman Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where military graveside honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. Serving as pallbearers will be Bruce, Randy, Justin, Josh, and Austin Fowler as well as Kelsey Leippi. Jimmy Fowler, Jr. will be serving as an honorary pallbearer.
Friends may call from 12:00 – 1:00 PM prior to the service.
