On Sunday, March 29, 2026, Jimmy Alvin Howry was called home by our Lord and Savior to his eternal resting place.
Jimmy was 81 years old, born on October 9, 1944. He was born in Knox City, Texas to Grady and Dorothy Mullican Howry. Jimmy had two siblings, older sister Shirley Howry Hawkins, and younger brother Gary Howry.
He married Carolyn Offutt Howry on October 27, 1967. They were married 58 years. Together they had two children, a daughter, Michelle Howry Tilley, and a son, Jimmy Scott Howry.
Jimmy worked for the Texas Highway Department for 31 years, and was proud of it. He would tell anyone and everyone they needed to go work for the state because you get all the holidays off and good retirement. Jimmy loved to talk, and would talk to anyone that would listen, sometimes even if you weren’t listening. He would tell you he loved being a flag man on the road because he got to talk to so many different people along the highway.
While Jimmy didn’t have much of any hobbies, he made weather watching, the game show network, and “cutting up and having fun” his daily hobbies. He would be sure to tell you when visiting, what the weather was going to do or be like and if you needed to go put your car up because hail was coming, along with talking your ear off, aggravating you, and then telling you “I’m just cutting up and having fun, I love to cut up and have fun.”
Jimmy was a Papaw to 5 grandchildren, Kristen Tilley Duncan, Kaleigh Howry Shipman, Bailli Howry, Garrett Howry, and Braden Howry, along with 3 great grandchildren, Kensi Shipman, Brenleigh Shipman, and Stetson Shipman.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Carolyn, daughter, Michelle, son, Scott and wife Christi, grandchildren and great grandchildren, along with his sister and other family and friends.
He is proceeded in death by his father, Grady Howry, mother Dorothy Mullican Howry, brother Gary Howry, son-in-law Brad Tilley, grandson Garrett Howry, granddaughter Bailli Howry, and great granddaughter Brenleigh Shipman.
Visitation will be held Tuesday March 31, 2026 at Archer Funeral home in Seymour, TX at 7 o’clock in the evening till 8 o’clock.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday April 1, 2026 at Henson Cemetery in Red Springs, TX at 2 o’clock in the afternoon under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Jimmy will be forever missed.
