Jimmy Thomas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Burgess Funeral Home & Crematory - Lancaster on Dec. 16, 2025.
LANCASTER, SC – Mr. James "Jimmy" David Thomas, age 79, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2025. Born January 16, 1946, the eldest son of eight children born to Ethel Virginia Hancock Thomas Barrett and the late James Daniel Thomas.

Jimmy was an industrious, self-employed mechanic who skillfully managed his own shop. He had a deep passion for automotive mechanics and has always loved working on vehicles. Two of his greatest restoration projects were his mustang he enjoyed driving daily and his sailboat that he once dreamed of sailing around the world. In years past he enjoyed fishing and finding peace by the water but in more recent years, spending time with his dog Buddy brought him much joy. Jimmy was also a great cook and devoted caretaker for his mother.

Jimmy is survived by his son, David (Amanda); his four grandchildren, Autumn Eason (Adam), Bre Hinson, Hannah Thomas, and Khloe Hinson; a great-grandchild, Isla Eason, and two more on the way. He is also survived by his mother, Virginia Thomas; his five siblings, Benny Thomas, Nay Revels (Robert), Maude Gainey, Sarah Walden, and Roger Thomas (Angie); his brother-in-law, Mike Stein; and many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Daniel Thomas; two siblings, Rebecca "Becky" Stein, and Faye Knight; his brothers-in-law, E.L. Knight, Ray Gainey, Jim Walden; and his stepfather, Walker Barrett.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Jimmy will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at New Life Free Will Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Doug Pate. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service.
