Mr. Underwood was born in Buena Vista, GA, on September 15, 1945, to William Dudley Underwood and Lois Barrett Underwood Cardin. He was a hard worker and began his career at the Marlette Mobile Home plant and then worked at Magnolia Manor in Americus as the Director of Maintenance for twelve years. He eventually opened his own business, Jimmy Underwood Home Improvements. Mr. Underwood enjoyed driving, riding his tractor and reminiscing. As a young man, he burned up the streets of Buena Vista usually giving the local police a run for their money. There’s even a story about his car ending up in Heard’s Lake. He loved NASCAR and was a devoted Dale Earnhardt fan. Mr. Underwood loved his family and enjoyed fishing with his children and looking after his hogs, rabbits, and dogs. He also enjoyed watching the Andy Griffith show. Once he moved to Magnolia Manor, the staff enjoyed his humor and he was often found up front acting as the greeting committee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Grady Underwood, and by two sisters, Linda Anthony and Louise Jones.
He is survived by his son, Jimmy Underwood, Jr. (Robin); by a daughter, Monica Andrews (JR); a sister, Grace Allen; a grandson, Christopher Underwood; a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Underwood; his Uncle Bobby Underwood (Brenda) and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice, Magnolia Manor of Marion County, and their loving and compassionate staff for taking such excellent care of Mr. Underwood.
