J.L. Daugherty "Ladd" was born April 22, 1937, in Swenson, Texas to the parents of John and Albertine Daughtery. He attended Oscar Depriest School in Hamlin, Texas.
Funeral Service will be Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at 11:00am at Crescent Heights Baptist Church, 1902 N Mockingbird Ln, Abilene, Texas. Burial will be at the Texas State Veteran Cemetery, 7457 W Lake Rd, Abilene, Texas.
J. L. served in the United Stated Air Force and separated after 4 years with an honorable discharge. He was employed as the first black firefighter in Abilene. He retired as a Civil Service employee at Dyess Air Force Base. He united with Holiday Hills Baptist Church where he was a faithful member for 25 years, he proudly served as a deacon. J.L. and Mary later joins Crescent Height Baptist Church.
J.L. leaves cherishing his everlasting memories: loving wife of 35 years, Mary Daugherty, 2 sisters; Triva Newman and Ida Nell Alston Daughters; Maida Daugherty, Cynthia Daugherty, Keisha (Dana Stephens) Carr, Janet Wigfall, and Sieanna Daugherty. 5 grandsons; James Spearman, Matthew Gratts, Billy Tubbs, Sterling Peterson, and Terance Edmond, James and Matthew were raised by J.L. and his wife. 4 granddaughters; London Watson, Jaime Boynton, Tanequa Evans, and Ticara Love, He has 17 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
J.L was preceded in death by his parents John and Albertine Daughtery, eight brothers and two sisters.
