Bangor – Jo an Evelyn Robinson Conley, 93, passed away November 12, 2025, at Ross Manor in Bangor. She was born March 8, 1932, in Bangor, the daughter of Alfred E. and Elinor (Ellis) Robinson. Jo an graduated from Bangor High School and the Eastern Maine General Hospital, School of Nursing, prior to her career as a Registered Nurse.
Jo an enjoyed golf, gardening, reading, long walks, and being the best Nana ever to all six of her grandchildren. Thank you Nana for all of the trips to the playground, endless hours of reading our favorite books, play dough, coloring and puzzles at the kitchen table, teaching us how to use a pogo stick (!!!), years of dance recitals and tennis matches, the full moon parties with blankets, carrot bread, and your famous clam dip! The smell of your applesauce on the stove and the Snickerdoodles from the oven will always remind us of how much we were loved by you!
Jo an is survived by her two children, Maureen Conley and her significant other, Joe Foster, and Michael Conley and his wife, Cindy; six grandchildren, Sydney Whitford, Jaime Crehan and her husband, Connor, James Conley and his wife, Liz, Margaret Hardwood and her husband, Brian, Sophia Baum and her husband, Josh, and Emma Conley; eight great-grandchildren, Liam, Amelia, Victoria, Isabel, Silas, Ivy, Aubrey, and Callahan; two brothers, William Robinson and his wife, Ginny, and James Robinson and his wife, Peggy; two sisters-in-law, Sue VanSchoick and Patricia Phelps; and several nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved very much. She was predeceased by her husband, James A. Conley; parents, Alfred and Elinor Robinson; sister and brother-in-law, Rosalie and Maynard Hammond; brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Roberta Robinson; brother-in-law, Thomas Conley; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean and Donald Gero.
Jo an also leaves behind two very special friends that became like family to her when she joined the Solstice Family after returning to Maine in 2021, Pearl Swenson and Betty Whitten. The beautiful way that these ladies loved and cared for each other was such a gift, and we are forever grateful.
A special thank you to the amazing caregivers who truly cared for Jo an like she was a member of their own family, especially Missy, Tori, Laura, Carol, Heather, and Wanda. Words cannot express how grateful we are. Thank you to the hospice team at Constellation, especially Rob, Angie, Morgan, Ali, and Scott, you are such amazing humans! And to the wonderful staff at The Sylvia Ross Home and Engle Place who went above and beyond to care for Jo an. Miranda and Ronnie-Jo, thank you so much.
Lastly, thank you Mom. You have been so much more than my Mom. You've been my teacher, confidant, advisor, sports fan, playmate, and always, my very best friend. Until we meet again, I love you Momma Bear. –Maureen
A memorial service will be held 12:30PM Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. Immediately following the service will be a brief committal at the Rural Grove Cemetery, Dover-Foxcroft. A celebration of Jo an's life will be held after the burial from 2-4PM at The Mill Inn + Café, Dover-Foxcroft.
