Jo Ann Stovall Obituary

Visit the Clark Funeral Home and Chapel website to view the full obituary.

Mrs. Jo Ann Mason Hamrick Stovall of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away Monday, September 22, 2025, at the age of 89. She was born July 3, 1936 in Douglasville, daughter of the late Howard Truman "Red" Mason and the late Rosella Lawler Waldrop.

She began her career working for Shirley's of Atlanta as a model and went on to a long rewarding career in banking, having worked for Commercial Bank, now known as Regions. She was a dedicated member of Ephesus Baptist Church of Villa Rica.

She found joy in the simplest of pleasures, whether it was planting flowers and tending to her yard, or enjoying her "bank girls" who gathered monthly for meals and memories. Her enthusiasm extended to her beloved Atlanta Braves and college football.

Jo Ann had a deep love for her church and would often watch televised preaching. In her younger years, she enjoyed dancing, a passion that reflected her vibrant personality. Her favorite dining spot was Sam & Roscoe's, where she had a close friendship with the owners. But, her greatest love was her family and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Stovall; sons, Ricky Howard "Bubba" Hamrick and Charles Lafayette "Chuck" Hamrick, Jr.; grandson, Ricky Howard "Buck" Hamrick, II; sister, Mary Ellen Loggins; brothers, William "Bill" Mason, Jimmy Mason and two baby brothers.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Mike Taylor; two grandchildren, Colton Hamrick and Stacy Taylor; three great-grandchildren, Sadie Hamrick, Hallie Hamrick and Madison Taylor; sister-in-law, Peggy Mason; niece, Donna (Danny) Alsobrook among many other nieces and nephews and so many close friends and neighbors.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Hightower's Memorial Chapel, 12651 Veterans Memorial Highway, Douglasville, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm.

Following the visitation, a graveside service will be held at 1:30 pm at Central Baptist Church Cemetery in Douglasville with Dr. Billy Godwin officiating.

Pallbearers will include Colton Hamrick, Dean Loggins, Brandon Alsobrook, Ryan Alsobrook, Andy Wallace and her deacon, Mike Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers will be her "Bank Girls" and Mr. Phil Wren.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests contributions be made in memory of Jo Ann Stovall to Ephesus Baptist Church, Attn: EBC Financial Secretary, P. O. Box 280, Winston, GA 30187.

A special thank you to Hightower's Memorial Chapel for their generosity in the use of their facility for the visitation.
