Jo Ann Bedwell, a beloved educator and cherished family member, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on July 11, 1953, Jo Ann dedicated 37 inspiring years of her life to teaching at Clark Elementary School, where her passion for education shone brightly. She loved all of her kids - no matter their background, nurturing their minds and hearts with the same devotion that marked her approach to family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, James Brian Bedwell; parents, Franklin Barte McCall and Myrtle Estelle Johnson McCall; brother, Fred White, Patsy Giania, David Wolff.

Jo Ann was a proud graduate the University of Montevallo, where she earned her degree in Education. Her profound impact on her students and her unwavering commitment to their growth reflect her generous spirit and her belief in the power of knowledge. Those who were fortunate enough to know her appreciated her honesty and straightforward nature, her ability to listen, and her role as a confidant. She was always there to offer support and wisdom, embodying the true essence of friendship and love.

Her family was the cornerstone of her happiness, and she loved them unconditionally. The joy of her life was her grandaughter, Hannah and her grandsons, Jace and Lucas, whom she adored and spoiled with boundless affection. Jo Ann found great pleasure in reading books, researching family ancestry - whether you wanted her to or not, shopping on Amazon and enjoying time spent on her computer, constantly exploring new interests and connecting with loved ones.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Lonnie Bedwell; son, Bradley (Jessica) Bedwell; grandchildren, Hannah Strohmer, Jace Bedwell and Lucas Bedwell; siblings, Frankie McCall, Debbie Merchant, Carol (Marvin) James; sister-in-law, Joann Bedwell Bell.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 30, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma with Dr. David Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Pineview Memory Gardens in Valley Grande. Visitation will begin at the funeral home in Selma, at 11:00 a.m., prior to the service.
