JoAnn Black, born January 13, 1940, in Fairmount, Georgia, passed away December 22, 2025, in her home in Cartersville, Georgia, surrounded by the love of her family. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Robert Black and was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Zula Craig; five brothers and one sister. She is survived by her children; daughter, Pam (Mike) Loy; her sons, Daren (Desrie) Black and Greg (Misty) Black; and sisters, Dessie Helton and Elizabeth Whaley.
JoAnn is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Jason Loy, Chris (Elyse) Loy, Megan (Aaron) Mansfield, Tiffany (Levi) Hicks, Clay (Wendy) Doughten, Skyler (Halley) King, Shania (Dillon) Chrisp, Hunter (Tan) King, Justin Black, Austin Dobbs, Alex (Madison) Dobbs and Macy Dobbs. Also, her legacy extends to 15 Great-grandchildren.
JoAnn enjoyed working as a cashier in the cafeteria at Cleveland State Community College, where she became a familiar and friendly face to many students and staff. JoAnn also enjoyed working with several companies as a seamstress. She was a talented homemaker and cook, she took great pride in creating a warm and inviting home for her family. One of her greatest joys was rearranging the furniture in her home, endlessly finding new ways to create comfort and beauty.
A lover of antique shopping and yard sales, JoAnn discovered unique treasures that held stories of their own. These excursions with family and friends provided her with countless memorable moments, filled with laughter and love. Her passion for life, her family, and her homemaking will be remembered fondly by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
JoAnn's family will welcome guest Monday, December 29, 2025, at Companion Funeral Home, Ridge Chapel 11:00-1:30. Services will follow at 2:00 with Pastor Rob Works officiating. She will be laid to rest at Flint Springs Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Loy, Chris Loy, Aaron Mansfield, Clay Doughten, Skyler King and Hunter King.
