Jo Dora Dey

The matriarch of our family, Jo D. Dey, passed peacefully at the age of 91 into her new life with our Lord in the early hours of the morning at MUSC in Charleston, South Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her former husband of 31 years, Donald Nalley; her husband, Virgil Dey, whom she married 8½ years later; and her son, Ronnie Stroud.

She is survived by her son, Mike (Angela) Stroud; her stepsons, Michael (Cindy) Dey and Kenneth (Mayra) Dey; and her daughter, Rhonda (Steve) James. While living in Charleston, SC, she spent much of her time with her grandchildren-Steve (Molly) James, Daniel James, and Amber James-but she was also blessed with 13 other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved each and every one of them dearly.

Jo enjoyed a simple and meaningful life filled with working puzzles, collecting teapots, making sweet tea, and keeping her home perfectly organized-even down to paper bags.

She was also known for opening her heart to others, often "adopting" sons and daughters and forming deep, lasting friendships.

A Celebration Of Life service will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026 at Greene Funeral Home, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732 at 12:00pm. The family will receive visitors prior from 11:00am – 11:45am.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at stjude.org, or to a domestic abuse program of your choice.
