Jo Carol "JoJo" Villandry, 77, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025, in San Marcos, Texas. A devoted nurse, passionate advocate, and vibrant spirit, Carol left an indelible mark on the lives of those she touched through her work, friendships, and unwavering compassion.
Born on June 3, 1948, in Shamrock, Texas, Carol was raised with a deep sense of purpose and resilience. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1966 and went on to study nursing at West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas, completing her training in 1968. She dedicated over five decades of her life to the healing profession.
Carol began her nursing career in pediatrics, where she spent ten years. She later transitioned into psychiatric nursing-a field where her natural insight and fierce dedication truly flourished. For the last two decades of her career, she worked at the Heritage Foundation outpatient program in Luling, Texas. There, she became a cornerstone of the community's mental health services. Her colleagues and patients admired her deeply for her ability to connect in a way that made therapy more effective and meaningful.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Carol led a life filled with adventure and passion. She earned her pilot's licenses in Amarillo and took to the skies with the same boldness that defined every aspect of her life. She was also an avid cyclist through the Texas Hill Country. Nature was her sanctuary-especially Blue Hole in Wimberley, Texas-where she often enjoyed the clear cold spring water and her walks and talks with friends and family.
Animals held a special place in Carol's heart. Over the years, she and her dearest friend, Julie, lovingly and exceptionally cared for horses, dogs and cats. Together they loved their pets as cherished family members.
Her love extended beyond animals to people from all walks of life. She had a strong belief in justice and equality and was a fierce advocate for those who were marginalized or underserved. Her generosity knew no bounds; she gave freely of herself to help others whenever she could.
Carol had a deep spiritual foundation. She studied the Bible with devotion and served as a minister in Austin, Texas. Her faith and teachings brought comfort to those around her.
She is survived by her best friend and companion of 30 years, Julie Jones; sister Luretta Calvert (Dwain) and sister-in-law Dianana Bridges; uncle Ralph Davis (Emma) and aunt Peggy Davis; nieces Chris Mudron (Dave), Jennifer Withrow (Ralph), Bronwyn Batjer, Harmony Villandry, and Sarah Calvert (Sterling); nephews Matthew Villandry (Brittany) and Mark Calvert (Gwen); 14 great nieces and nephews; 3 great-grand nephews and niece; her son, Kent McMillan; many cousins; countless friends; and 4 pets - Alice, Oliver, Riley and Quinn.
She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond Villandry and Betty Davis Villandry; sister Donna Pinkston; brothers Kenneth Villandry and Mark Villandry; daughter Melissa McMillan; and longtime friend Lynne McMillan.
Those who knew Carol will remember her as humorous, intelligent, adventurous-and above all-loving. Her beautiful, welcoming smile and tender heart brought joy to all and her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched.
