Joan Faye Badgero, a lifelong resident of Onaway, was welcomed into heaven on Friday, June 3, 2022 at the age of 85.
Joan was born on February 24, 1937 in Onaway, Michigan. She was a daughter of Septimus and Laura (nee VonBurg) Porter. She was a 1955 graduate of Onaway High School and attended nursing school to become a Registered Nurse. After many years, Jim Badgero persuaded her to marry him and they said their vows on February 28, 1959. Jo was profound with her hands and had a sharp mind. She helped many people during her nursing career and also shared her knowledge by teaching. Jo was strong in her faith and attended church every service until recent years. Unfortunately, she was declining due to dementia and had to be moved to a care facility in Grand Rapids closer to her daughter, Staci to be cared for until her time here on earth was finished. Jo enjoyed quilting for her grandchildren, sewing, knitting, reading and playing cards. She was an avid Tiger and Lion's fan and would always cheer them on (with an occasional outburst at the refs) no matter how awful of a season they were having. Jo had a strong opinion and was never afraid to voice it. She was loved by many and will be missed.
Jo is survived by her children, Sherry (Tim) Paulus, Kay (Ron) Ozog, Jim Badgero, Jr., Staci (Chris) Bishop and Darci (Nate) Fennell; grandchildren, Erika (Rick) Price, A.J. Paulus, Erin (Stan) Chaskey, Levi (Rebecca) Bishop, Laura (Mark) Tippets, Brice (Abby) Bishop, Holly (Chili) McNeil, Adam (Jazmyn) Bishop, Simeon (Heather Kullgren) Bishop, Garrett (McKenzie Milner) Badgero, Morganne (Joseph Nardi) Badgero, Haley (Todd Coyne) duBarry, Tyson duBarry, Nathan Fennell and Ivy Fennell; great-grandchildren, Taylor Price, Jillian Chaskey, Tucker Price, Jackson Chaskey, Landon Bishop, Ella Tippets, Samantha Tippets, Evelyn Bishop, Riley Bishop, Mary Bishop, Leigh Bishop, Madelyn Bishop, Rowan Bishop, baby Jace Coyne (on the way) and baby Badgero (on the way); great-great granddaughter, Navy McDonald; brother-in-law, Jerry (Joan) Badgero; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family and friends. Jo was predeceased by her beloved husband of 50 years, Jim Badgero, Sr on August 24, 2009; siblings, Howard (Evelyn) Porter, Floyd (Sybil) Porter, Esther ((Ernie) Hall and infant George Porter; brother-in-laws, Bill (Janet) Badgero and Ted (Glad) (Dorothy) Badgero; sister-in-law, Lois (Loran) Popp; and parents.
Memorial visitation will be held Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Forest Township Hall, 9511 M-68, Tower, MI. The Memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the hall with a luncheon to follow. Joan will be laid to rest next to her husband in Elmwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Joan Badgero Memorial Fund c/o Darci Fennell at Hauss-Modetz Funeral Home, 47477 Romeo Plank, Macomb, MI 48044. The memorials will be distributed between several missions that Jo supported over the years.
