Joan Barba Obituary
She was a graduate of St. Hedwig Elementary School and St. Paul's Commercial School. She was a lifelong member of St. Hedwig Catholic Church, Holy Rosary Society, Alley Cats, bowling league, and choir, and volunteered at the Polish Festival.
Joan owned and ran Barba's Village Shoppe in Elsmere for 25 years; she retired after working 10 years in the school nutrition department at Ritchey Elementary School
Joan will be remembered for a life filled with music, song, and dance. Her joyful spirit touched many, and her vibrant rhythm will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Joseph A Barba Sr. and children Mary (Steve), Joann (Kevin) and Joseph (Wendy); brother Edward; grandchildren Jennifer (Trevor), Kevin (Lali), Casey (Jacob) and Melanie (Joey); 9 great grandchildren – Joseph, Max, Isabelle, Harper, Madi, Levi, Charleigh, Rory and Quinn; goddaughter Rosie (Chris); and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Ethel and Edward, sisters Helen and Patricia, and nephew Franny.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, January 6th, 2026 from 10AM-11AM at St. Hedwig Church, 408 S. Harrison St., Wilmington, DE 19805, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM. Entombment will be held privately for the family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorial contributions to be sent c/o St. Hedwig Church, 408 S. Harrison St., Wilmington, DE 19805.
