Joan Bennett

Joan, along with twin sister Jean, was born in Atlanta, Georgia on October 1, 1934. She passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 and was 91 years of age. She is one of five children born to Marie Jones Bennett and Andrew Lester Bennett, both deceased. She has been a resident of Smyrna, Georgia since her parents moved here in 1945. She is a 1951 graduate of Smyrna High School and a varsity member of the 1951 Ladies Cobb County Basketball Championship team. Following high school she attended Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, TN. She retired from the law firm of Troutman Sanders in Atlanta, Georgia after 31 years of service. Prior to that employment, she was legal assistant to the Honorable Sam P. McKenzie, Judge, Superior Court Fulton County. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Smyrna, serving in ministries such as Celebration Choir, Phases I and II of 1980 building fund campaign, and a member of Friendship Sunday School. She was a charter member of and volunteer in the Smyrna Historical and Genealogical Society. She was also a volunteer in the Keep Smyrna Beautiful civic program. She also served with the Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief Ministry clean up and recovery unit, in active participation for many years during hurricane season. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church 1275 Church Street Smyrna, GA 30080. A visitation will be held from 1-3 pm Sunday, January 18, 2026 at the Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna.
