Joan Bundy, born on March 13, 1941, in Des Moines, Iowa. She passed away peacefully in her hometown on June 29, 2025. She was known for her kindness, vibrant spirit, and the profound love she held for her family and friends. Joan's life was marked by dedication to her work and her unwavering faith.
Joan's career spanned various roles, serving as a file clerk, elevator operator, and working at American Can Co. Throughout her professional journey, she endeavored to provide excellent service and support to those she encountered.
An alumni of East High School in Des Moines, Joan furthered her education by attending vocational schooling, laying the groundwork for her diverse career. Her commitment to learning and growth was evident throughout her life.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Joan was deeply rooted in her faith. She attended Evangelistic Church of God in Christ and actively participated in the Senior Choir and God's Little Children Choir. She was blessed to have spiritual leaders, Elder Euric and Mother Lucy Fountain, guiding her on her spiritual journey.
Joan's interests had a variety of hobbies that brought joy to her life. She cherished playing cards with her children and grandchildren, going shopping, decorating her home, cooking her famous mac-n-cheese and shake n' bake turkey. Additionally, her love for travel allowed her to visit family and friends, creating lasting memories.
In her family life, Joan was a beloved mother to her sons, Harry Jr. and Leonard Sr. (Marla), and her daughters, Lucille Bundy and Coy Bundy. She shared a close bond with her sister, Sandra Porter, and her brother, Gene Rife. Joan took immense pride in her role as a grandmother to her grandchildren: LaCresha, Leonard Jr. (Rachel), Jhermayne, Jhesye, Iisiah, Octavia, Dontrey, Gerante’, Jaime', Anitra, Dre’Shaun, and Brea. She was also delighted in being a great-grandmother to Nicke’les, Eli, Latre’viance, Kamani, Khi'Yahni, Kamiya, Kaiden, Liniyah, Amaya, Kaylanni, Ai'Yahnu, Abari, Laylionna, Amaris, Cherish, and MhiAngel.
Joan was preceded in death by her loving parents, Lucille and Leonard Rife; her husband, Harry Bundy Sr.; and her son, Jesse Bundy. She also mourned the loss of her brothers, Leonard Rife, William (Butchie) Rife, Donald Rife, Marion Rife, and James Rife; as well as her sisters, Kathryn Mumford, Doris Lucas, Jeanette Freeman, Gwendolyn Bryson, and Patricia Riley.
Visitation will be Friday, July 11th, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at Corinthian Baptist Church, Funeral Service to follow starting at 11:00 A.M
