Joan Chambon, 88, went to be with the Lord on March 15, 2026. She was born in Vincennes, Indiana on October 14, 1937, to the late Jewell and Pearl Hocker. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1955 and continued her education at Vincennes University, where she graduated in 1958. Joan married the love of her life, Dick Chambon, on July 12, 1958; they were blessed with 42 years of marriage before his passing. Joan began her career as a Registered Nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was a member of the YMCA, Daughters of the American Revolution, and her local Duplicate Bridge Club. She attended Upper Indiana Presbyterian and Indiana Presbyterian Church, where she proudly played the organ many years for both.
Joan enjoyed playing bridge and mahjong, knitting blankets and washcloths, reading books and visiting the Knox County Public Library, and attending plays at the Old Town Players. Joan was lovingly known as the, "Cookie Lady," or "Grandma Cookies," thanks to her mission of making and gifting homemade cookies for everyone she knew. Joan cut a wide swath through Vincennes and will be deeply missed by many!
Joan is preceded in death by her parents Jewell and Pearl Hocker, husband Dick Chambon, sisters Dorothy Hocker, Jean Moyer, and Jackie Jontz. She is survived by her children Michael (Lisa) Chambon, Renee (Carl) Scott, Valerie (Casey) Chambon; grandchildren Melissa Chambon, Alison (Daniel) Riddle, Elise Chambon Miller, and several nieces and nephews.
Goodwin-Sievers is honored to be entrusted with the care of Joan Chambon. Visitation will be held Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 524 Broadway Street from 11 - 1. The funeral service will begin promptly at 1 pm, with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following.
