Joan DeFeo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home Inc on Mar. 8, 2026.
Joan L. Saroney DeFeo, 78, a lifetime resident of Eastwood, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 24, 2026. Joan spent nearly 60 years doing what she loved most-making people feel beautiful as a dedicated and talented hairdresser. Outside the salon, Joan found joy in her garden. She loved tending to her flowers and watching things grow. Her greatest pride, though, was her family. She was her son Erik's biggest supporter, cheering him on through every season of his basketball playing and coaching career. She was just as devoted to her three grandchildren-James, Emma and Jackson- rarely missing their athletic events and always cheering the loudest from the sidelines. Being their grandma was her greatest joy, and she embraced the role with endless love and pride. Joan will be remembered for her unwavering support for the people she loved. She was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Mary LaMontagne and husband, David DeFeo. She is survived by her only son, Erik (Michelle) Saroney; sisters: Margaret "Peggy" (David) Filipski and Elizabeth Cummings; grandchildren: James, Emma, and Jackson Saroney; several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 27th from 4-6 pm at Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James Street in Syracuse, with a memorial service to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Central New York, 990 7th North Street, Liverpool, NY 13088.
