Joan Elizabeth Delaney (née Koenig) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Oct. 18, 2025, at age 85.
Born and raised in South City, Joan was proud to call St. Louis home until two years ago, when she moved to Charleston, SC, to be near her son, Rick, and his family. Joan married the love of her life, Harold Delaney, and they raised four sons in South County. She worked as a school bus driver and homemaker, was a loyal fan of the Cardinals and longtime member of Calvary Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed gardening and playing Bunko with her friends. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Joan was preceded in death by Harold and her parents, Harold and Helen Koenig. She is survived by her four sons — Bob (partner Julie Rodriguez), Rick (Melissa), Brian (Gretchen Hauge) and Doug (Helen); her brother Harold (Suzanne) Koenig; six grandchildren — Alex (partner Reese Bellamy), Apollo, Fischer, Kate, Luca and Matteo; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service celebrating Joan’s life will be held December 7 at 2 p.m. at John L. Ziegenhein and Sons Funeral Home, South County Chapel, 4830 Lemay Ferry Road with a 1-hour visitation held prior. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Church USA or to a charity of one’s choice in Joan’s memory.
