Joan Dembkowski, age 91, formerly of the Browntown neighborhood in Wilmington, and more recently from Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
She was born in Wilmington, daughter of the late Arthur and Eva (Barton) Conner, attended Wilmington High School, and dedicated her life to her family. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she was a fervent supporter of all of their endeavors. Joan loved spending time with family around the holidays and always made sure to catch her daily episodes of General Hospital and Wheel of Fortune. She also had a special place in her heart for her furry family companions, Calvin, Dolly Mae, Luciano, Vida, Cody, and Bear.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Amy (Rausch) Lasako and her husband, Darron; her grandchildren, Paige Winward (Alex), Sonny Davis (Sarah Novack), Tyler Lasako, and Darron Lasako, Jr. (Felicia); and her great-grandchildren, Miley, Jace, and Carson Lasako.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; and her siblings, William and Richard Conner, and Doris Lee.
Joan's family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to Ann Snyder and Jessica Ciccone, for their enduring care and compassion.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, January 20, 2025 from 10:30am to 12:00pm at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. A brief remembrance service will conclude the visitation. Interment will be private in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making contributions in Joan's memory to Faithful Friends Animal Society, 165 Airport Road, New Castle, DE 19720.
