Joan Josephine DiMarco was born on Saint Joseph's Day, March 19, 1936, to Nicholas and Catherine Lombardi DiMarco in Brooklyn, NY. She peacefully left this Earth on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the age of 88 at Brandywine Assisted Living in Howell, NJ.
Joan was the second of three children and attended Central High School of Needle Trades in Manhattan. She followed in her father's footsteps and went to work at Con Edison where she spent the majority of her 40-year career in multiple facets of Customer Service. She never married and was an independent and adventurous trailblazer, buying her own home in the 1970's on the Jersey Shore which gave her family and friends many great memories over the years. She was a fearless world traveler with visits to places such as Russia, Greece, Europe, and Asia documenting each trip with photographs and mementos along the way. Joan was also a proud New Yorker attending Broadway shows, dining out and cheering on her beloved New York Yankees.
In retirement, Joan became a snowbird, splitting her time between Long Beach Island, NJ and Henderson, NV where she enjoyed playing cards, reading, volunteering to teach knitting skills to others in her community and admiring the Jersey Shore sunsets. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her seven great-nieces and great-nephews whom she adored.
Joan will be remembered for her generosity, sense of humor, unwavering love for her family and giving the best hugs. She is survived by her sister, Rosalie Marinelli and brother, Nick DiMarco, nephews, Billy Marinelli (Warunee), Nicky DiMarco (Kate), nieces, Patricia Marinelli, Nikki Marinelli (Craig), Joann Marinelli, Diane Cuddy (Miles), great-nephews, Nicholas, Michael, Ryan, Riley, Will, great-nieces, Alexandra, Ellie and lifelong friends, Joan Alagna and Helen Fackery.
Joan's cremation was private. In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
