Joan Angela Farris, age 72 of Gulfport, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Farris; her mother, Ruthea Currie; and her brothers, Guy Farris and Vic Farris.
Joan is survived by her siblings, Derrick (Sissy) Farris of Pass Christian, Lyn Burnaman of Gulfport and Charissa Currie of Gulfport; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan, a lifelong resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, was a proud graduate of Long Beach High School. After graduation, she began her career as a support staff member at a garment factory in Gulfport, but her true calling came when she opened and operated her own day care—a vocation she lovingly pursued for most of her life.
Joan had a deep love for animals and took great joy in raising, training, and caring for many pets over the years. Her compassion extended far beyond her home. A devoted parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gulfport for decades, Joan was an active member of the church community and lived her faith through service.
For many years, she visited local nursing homes weekly, making sure the residents knew they were not forgotten. She took time to talk with each person, asking if they needed anything, whether it was a newspaper, a piece of candy, or a small comfort, and she always returned with whatever they requested.
Joan will be remembered for her loving, caring and supportive nature, and the joy she brought to everyone around her. Though she had no children of her own, the many children she cared for through her day care became part of her extended family. To her, friends and fellow parishioners were also family, each one held close in her heart.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 17, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Gulfport, with visitation beginning at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in her name to the Humane Society of South MS.
