Milton, WI - Joan Pauline Hilton, 89, passed away at home on February 18 surrounded by her family. She was born on March 26, 1934, in Cornell, Illinois, the daughter of Menzie and Mary Burkett. She attended Burr Oak School, a one room school serving the rural area and then Milton Union High School.
On January 28, 1952, she married Gerald (Jerry) Hilton. They were active campers and square dancers. Joan was a lifetime member of the Milton Historical Society, including serving as president, a member of the First Congregational Church and an active member of the Gathering Place. She loved her Tuesday afternoon bridge games. Joan was an active cardplayer, crafter, puzzler and friend to several very long-term friends. She loved nothing more than an afternoon of "junking".
Joan was a hard and industrious worker. In addition to raising five children, she worked numerous jobs around her husband and children's busy lives. As an in-home childcare provider, she helped raise countless children, first in Janesville and then back in her hometown, Milton.
Joan is survived by her children Donna (Robert) Stewart, Diana (Peter) Daluge, Derek Hilton and Drew Hilton and grandchildren Jason Klemp, Mary Klemp Glass, Jacob Stewart, Molly Stewart Dall'Osto, Blair Mishleau, and Wyatt Hilton. Additionally, Joan is survived by great grandchildren Alexander Klemp, Megan Glass, Trevor Glass, Jaxson Stewart and Arlo Dall'Osto.
She is further survived by her brothers James Burkett and Dave (Chris) Burkett, sisters-in-law Jean Burkett and Kerry Burkett and many very special nieces and nephews.
If she were listing her family members, she would also include her furry best friends...the "boys", Tiger and Tony.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband Gerald, her daughter Deborah, her parents Menzie and Mary Burkett, her in-laws Les and Hazel Hilton and brothers Donald and Dale, sister-in-law Norma and nephews Lester Burkett and Bradley Burkett.
