Joan A. (Clancy) Houghtaling, 89, of Kingston died Monday February 24, 2025 at Golden Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born December 4, 1935 in Kingston she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Anna (Mayone) Clancy. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband Joseph W. Houghtaling, her sister, Lorraine Clancy Dickson and her cats, Shatzie and Shadow.
Joan began her career at New York Telephone as an operator. She later became Telephone Manager at IBM in Kingston for 35 years. After her retirement from IBM, she worked as a breakfast and lunch server at John F. Kennedy School for many years.
Joan and her beloved husband, Joe enjoyed traveling to Bermuda, Florida and Las Vegas. They enjoyed spending summer vacations in Saranac Lake with Joe's daughter, Lisa and their grandchildren, Kyle and Calandra.
One of Joan's greatest pleasures was feeding and sheltering the neighborhood stray cats. She always made sure that they were warm, fed and enjoyed watching them in her yard.
Joan is survived by her step-daughters, Lynn (Houghtaling) Dunham and son-in-law Charlie Dunham of Kingston, Lisa McKenna of Vermontville, NY, Tracy Brady Houghtaling of Las Vegas, NV, grandchildren Kyle (Haley) McKenna, Calandra (Jeffrey) McKenna-Lyle. Joan's niece Jamie Sykes and nephew James Dickson also survive.
Surviving cousins include Rosanne and Roger Yetzer, Mary Cassell, Michael Mayone, Thelma Cuff, Carol Cuff, Sue and Walter Cuff, Claudia Cuff, Jeannine (O'Locki) and Thomas Messina, Linda Nicoletti, Leslie and Robert Briody, Laura and Alfred Mayone, Jr., Annette and Robert Briggs, Diane Bruno, Christina Mannello, Walter Mayone, Vincent Mayone, Cherri and Roy Mayone, Jr., Norma and Patrick McGuire, Denise Exstrand and Charles Atkins, Janis Exstrand, Sandy and John Exstrand, Cynthia and Donald Todd.
Special thanks and gratitude to the staff of Unit C-3 at Golden Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their loving and compassionate care of Joan.
All services were held privately following Joan's wishes.
