Born on November 27, 1952, in Mason City, Iowa, Joan was a daughter of the late Robert and Arline (Eskildsen) Gore. On March 31, 1972 in Watertown, SD, Joan was united in marriage to Russell Miller. Together the couple shared 48 years of marriage and raised two sons: Chad and David. Jo was known for her strong work ethic that carried into all facets of her life. She was a devoted mother and a doting grandmother who cherished every moment spent with her family.
An active member of First Lutheran Church, Jo dedicated time to teaching Sunday School and instilling values of kindness and community in the children she served. She loved camping and traveling out west, where she enjoyed visiting National Parks and taking in the great outdoors. She loved golfing at Green Lea Golf Course and had a particular fondness for classic cars, proudly owning a 1965 Malibu SS Convertible and a 1984 Cutlass Supreme.
A woman with a great sense of humor, Jo was known for her sarcastic and witty remarks. She always dressed stylishly and presented herself beautifully, reflecting her vibrant personality. Whether it was watching Western TV shows or funny movies, she had a knack for bringing joy to those around her.
Those left to cherish Joan’s memory include her two sons, Chad (Stacia) Miller and David (Crystal) Miller; grandchildren, Sydney, Jack, Allie, Avery, Lauren (Zach Slegh) and Jacob Miller; a sister, Susan Julius; and several step-children, nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In addition to her parents, Robert and Arline Gore, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Miller; brothers, Ronald, Randy and Dennis Gore; and a sister, Karen Szymanowski.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, November 14, 2025 at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, with Pastor Mary Fiel officiating. A visitation will be held from 11:00AM-1:00PM prior to the service at church. Burial will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Albert Lea.
