Joan Krall Obituary
JOAN P. KRALL, age 72. Beloved daughter of the late Thomas and Patricia Krall. Loving sister of Michael Krall (Shirley), Timothy Krall (Mary Zabertnic), Bryan Krall (Jo), Jennifer Krall (Mark Petitt). Dear aunt of Lisa Kubinski (Alex), Michelle Krall (Keith), Megan Steigerwald (Adam), Kevin, Shaun (Bela), Ally, Sophia, Lily, Brynn, Kaitlin Palagyi (Caleb), and Olivia Petitt (Daniel). Dearest great aunt of Violet, Otto, and Arlo Steigerwald.
Joan was a Beatles fan, I have to say it, what a long and winding road. She scratched, clawed, sçreamed, yelled, and fought for twenty-two
years. She even won some battles here and there. Joan never gave up, even when she lost more battles than she won. She viewed it as just another day to put on her armor. But, this day she was relieved of her duty. God called his most stubborn five-star General home. No more needles, no more surgeries, no more procedures, no more scans, no more anxiety waiting for those scans, no more doctors, no more pain. We will miss her terribly, but
will remember her joyfully.
She was so much more than her disease. It may have clouded these latest years, but cancer didn't define her. Extreme generosity, kindness, thoughtfulness, patience, and her capacity to love defined her. I don't want people to forget that she was a great artist, a great craftsman, a faithful civil servant, a great friend. She bought presents for the children of every friend she ever collected over the years. Even today, children are enjoying the dolls she made. Her generosity was boundless. Most of all, she was, literally, everyone's Aunt Joanie. My neighbors, my friends, my children's friends all knew her as "Aunt Joanie".
So, this is how I pray she will always be remembered. Not by the years of fighting a dreaded disease, but by the many more years of being Aunt Joanie. And me, a mere foot soldier compared to my General, will forever be grateful and proud to have had her as my sister. Thank you, Joan.
Mass of Christian Burial, St. Ambrose Church, Thursday January 25, 2024, at 10:30 AM (EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). Interment Resurrection Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at Skyview Lodge, 1 - 4 PM, 336 Pearl Road, Brunswick, Ohio 44212. Arrangements entrusted to the A. RIPEPI & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 18149 BAGLEY ROAD, MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS (WEST OF I-71).

Joan was a friend to many at the Cuyahoga County Engineer's Office where she was an office manager for the Maintenance Department. She helped oversee the daily repair of 214 bridges and over 1,000 lane miles of county roadway. At its peak, the department had a staff of more than 300 construction personnel stationed at eight "Yards" located around the county. Joan was a chronicler of everything that happened. She even wrote about employee news in "Joan Hears," a popular column in the county engineer's "Transit" newsletter. When the county decided to turn routine road maintenance over to municipalities, in 1988, Joan played an important role in this transition. The Maintenance Department had recently lost 85 employees through an early retirement plan and she worked diligently with yard superintendents and the Human Resource Department to ease employee fears about possible layoffs. She then helped to coordinate the retraining of roadway workers for bridge construction and repairs. Joan's optimism, kindness and humor made working with her a true joy and for that shall we be forever thankful. Hey Joan, my grandchildren enjoy playing with the dolls that you made for my daughters 40 years ago.

One of the sweetest, most wonderful people to EVER walk the earth. Joanie was best friend to my sister, MJ, for such a long time! She helped her when she took care of my parents and always sent things to my daughter, Alexa, for every birthday or event in her life. She was so talented with her arts and crafts. I truly loved this woman and I will miss her tremendously. My sister will NEVER have a friend quite like her. God bless Joanie...we love you!
