Joan Leimer, 95, of Rochester, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Homestead Memory Care in Rochester, Minnesota.
Joan Elizabeth (Hearn) Leimer was born October 22, 1928, in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Elmer and Ida (Hockswender) Hearn. She graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in Queens, New York, and attended Brown Business School.
Joan married John Leimer on June 4, 1949, in Brooklyn, New York. In 1963 they moved to Rochester with their two children, transferring with IBM. Joan was an active member at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, where she was a member for nearly fifty years, as well as in the community. She was a small business owner, co-owning Jancee Pottery & Gifts in downtown Rochester. She volunteered at Saints Marys Hospital Auxiliary ("Pink Ladies") for several decades, helped establish the hospital gift shop, and was a past president of the Auxiliary. She enjoyed golf, bowling, bridge, and travel. She is survived by her son, John (Nancy) Leimer of Rochester; daughter, Jude Leimer (Paul Strommen) of Madison, Wisconsin; four grandchildren Jaime Decker (Brian), Beth Cooper (Scott), Max Strommen, and Peter Strommen (Bekah); five great grandchildren Landon, Melanie, Paige, Elise, and Lennon; and nephew Mark Kreiling. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, and her niece Dorian Kreiling.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September13, 2024, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 2830 18th Ave. NW, Rochester. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Mount Olive Lutheran Church Columbarium. Memorials are preferred to Mount Olive Lutheran Church.
