Joan S. LeVan, age 95, passed away April 6, 2025, in Newnan, Georgia, where she had been living since 2014. Her body was cremated, and her ashes will be buried along with her husband's ashes in the Memorial Garden at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Newnan.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 10:00 am.
She is survived by her son and wife, Mark (Wendy) LeVan of Newnan, grandson Nicholas (Megan) LeVan, and great-grandchildren Ryan, Eathon, and Gabrielle LeVan of Peachtree City, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, her parents, Ernest and Alice Sinclair, and her sisters, Nora Helm, Doreen McKay, and Jean Austin.
Joan was born September 2, 1929, in Upper Darby, Pa. She was married to Donald Keith
LeVan, June 5, 1948, in Pittsburgh, Pa. They later moved to Dubuque, Iowa, and then to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1954. She worked in the insurance business for 40+ years and retired from Millhiser Smith Agency as vice president of the bond department. Following the death of her husband, she moved to Newnan, GA, to be closer to family.
Over the years, she was an active member of the Kum Disciples Sunday School Class at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, a 60+ year member of PEO Chapters KK in Cedar Rapids and AZ in Newnan. Past president of Independent Insurance Agents and member of Insurance Associates of Cedar Rapids. She remained very active at Wesley Woods Senior Housing. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling, and playing cards.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Paul's Episcopal Church Organ Fund,
