Joan K. Marchant of Sacramento, California , passed away peacefully on Friday, November 14th, at the age of 88. A longtime resident of Sacramento, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Thomas Marchant, who passed away in March of this year. Born on July 17, 1937 to Sylvia and Arlie Edwards, she was raised in Franklin Grove, Illinois. Joan was the oldest of four children – June (and Gene) Scudder, Jane (and Vernon) Workman and John (and Paula) Edwards.
In addition to being a dedicated mother, Joan was a Registered Nurse in Illinois and California for many years. She was highly regarded for her compassion and care.
Joan is survived by her siblings Jane and John, her three children Gary (and Suzee) Hayenga, Michael (and Sherry) Hayenga and Lisa (and Claude) Thuston, and two step children, Emily (and Greg) West and Grant Eppler. She also leaves behind several adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will forever hold her memory close.
In keeping with her wishes, no service will be held. The family encourages those who knew her to honor her memory in their own way—through a quiet moment, a shared story, or an act of kindness. May her soul rest in peace.
