Joan Marshall Obituary

Joan Barbara (Remond) Marshall
Joan Barbara (Remond) Marshall, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and nurse practitioner, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024, at Masonic Home in Wallingford, Connecticut, after a period of declining health. She was 89 years old.
Born on July 24, 1935, in Meriden, Connecticut to George and Lydia Remond, Joan graduated from Meriden High School in 1953 and earned her nursing degree from UConn in 1957. Her passion for caregiving led to a distinguished career in nursing, where she worked in various capacities. When her children were school-aged, Joan returned to her studies and became one of the earliest Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) in CT. Later in life, she returned to school to earn her master's degree in public health from Southern CT State University. She dedicated much of her career to women's health care, tirelessly serving underserved communities with compassion and expertise.
Joan met the love of her life, Tom Marshall, at the Meriden Ski Club in 1966, married the same year and shared 58 wonderful years together. Their mutual love of skiing brought them countless joyful memories at their second home in Vermont and resulted in teaching their children to ski early which led to their son Jason's participation in the Special Olympics in downhill skiing. Together, they also traveled extensively to England, France, Ireland, and Mexico with highlights including a memorable journey to Egypt and the Holy Land in the early '90s.
A woman of deep faith, Joan was an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Meriden. She served on the vestry, sang in the choir for many years and was also President of the Board of the Curtis Home, contributing her time and talent to her beloved church community.
Joan is survived by her husband Tom; her son Jason of Wallingford; her daughter Sarah Dudley and son-in-law Willie of Meriden; and her beloved grandchildren Ethan and Eva. She also leaves her cherished niece Laurel Joan Kinsey and husband Tim and their children Landon, Evan and Emerson and a nephew Stephen Beebe. She was predeceased by her sister Evelyn Beebe and her son Jeffrey, who passed away from cancer at the age of twenty. Her family takes comfort in knowing that Joan and Jeffrey are reunited in eternal life.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Saturday, January 4th, 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 20 Catlin Street, Meriden, followed by a burial at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Calling hours will start at 10 a.m. at the church, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations came be made to St. Andrew's Food Pantry, 20 Catlin St. Meriden, CT. 06450. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden, CT 06450. For online condolences please visit jferryfh.com.
