Joan Virginia Moore (Runnels), 88, of Shorewwod IL, formerly of Joliet, Springfield IL and Monico WI, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024 in Joliet IL. She was born August 9, 1935 in Springfield IL, to Bruce and Mary Christina Runnels Miller (Miller).
Joan was a beautiful, loving, hardworking wife, mother, and grandmother. Joan and her late husband, Lenny, spent many years building a log home from scratch in Monico WI. Joan was the best cook ever – she could throw together whatever was in the refrigerator and the result was delicious. She enjoyed cooking, reading, playing bingo, going to the casino, sewing and canning vegetables from Lenny's garden (though, not sure this was enjoyable to Joan!)
Joan worked as a nursing assistant at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home and was proud of her certification as a hospice caregiver.
She always made everything fun, including camping trips, making fruit roll-ups and making her great-grandchildren laugh when she stuck out her dentures. Many fond memories were made in the old school bus-camper, especially the trip to Arizona.
She is survived by her children, Chris (Dan) Dunn, Cathy (John) Strle, Joan (Tom) Shankland, Patti (Gary) Brick, Tracey (Ed) Lesh, and Bob (Kelly) Moore. Also survived by 24 grandchildren, Jaci Luif, Mike Dunn, Kelly Jones, Johnny Strle, Anna Murphy, Chris Perryman, Melissa Eriksen, Chelsea Rutz, Tommy Shankland, Shauna Masokas, Holly Blake, Heidi Curtin, Bobby and Danny Brodinski, Kendra Marten, Kaitlyn Van Natta, Briana Klein, Jeremy and Cheyenne Moore, Michael Moore, Carly Humphrey, Matt and Kristen Moore and Joni Davis along with 31 great-grandchildren plus 3 more on the way.
Other survivors include her brother Robert (Janet) Runnels, her dear cousin Barb Fletcher and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceeded in death by her husband Lenny Moore, sons Mark and Tim, parents Bruce and Christine Runnels, second husband Clark Rhinesmith, long-time companion Robert "Grouch" Goetz, son-in-law Ric Carlson, daughter-in-law Sheri Moore and special niece Ann Moore.
