Joan Newkirk Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Adams Funeral Home - Woodstown on Oct. 1, 2025.
Joan C. Newkirk, 82, of Monroeville, NJ passed away on September 28, 2025. Born and raised in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of George E. and Anna Marie (McMullen) Stiegler. Joan moved to Woodbury her senior year and graduated from Woodbury High School. Joan met her husband Richard on a double date with their friends Tom and Judy. One thing led to another and soon enough Joan was dating Richard and Tom dated Judy. Always ready for an adventure, Joan and Richard eloped and were married in Maryland at the ripe young age of 19. They were married for 62 years. Joan, Richard, Tom and Judy remained life long friends. After staying home for many years to raise her family, Joan took a receptionist position that started her 35 year career at the First National Bank of Elmer. Through hard work and continued education, Joan was promoted to branch manager and fulfilled that role for many years until she retired. Joan lived a life full of love for her family and friends. She shared her time as a Girl Scout leader with the Daretown Troop where she learned to snow ski and went white water rafting. Joan enjoyed spending summers on family vacation in Ocean City, NJ, many family trips to East Point, and the Sight and Sound theatre in Lancaster with her daughters Christina and Joan. Joan was an avid reader and loved playing Scrabble. She could not be beat at playing Gin Rummy. Socially, Joan enjoyed many get togethers and destination vacations with her high school friends that she referred to as "The Girls Club". Most of all, Joan loved being surrounded by her family. Joan especially enjoyed debating politics, with her late brother, George Stiegler. She cherished watching movies with her grandson Brandon, and going to the movies with her great grandchildren Jax and Grace. Joan loved going to lunch and shopping with her granddaughter Brittany. She loved reading her granddaughter Madison's creative writing, and watching her grand daughter Hayden ride her horse Benz at the farm. Joan loved going to the beach with her nephew, David and his family. She also enjoyed spending her days with her daughter and caregiver Joan, watching shows, shopping, and taking day trips. She is survived by her daughters, Joan Timberman (Todd Sherman), Christina Meyers (Frank), and Michelle Newkirk; grandchildren, Brittany Timberman, Brandon Timberman, Breanna Krieger (Timberman), Madison Meyers, and Hayden Meyers; great-grandchildren, Jax Timberman, Grace Timberman, and Lorenzo Luci; and her nephew, David Stiegler (Regina). In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her husband, Richard, and her brother, George Stiegler II. A mother, aunt, grandmother and friend to so many, Joan will be dearly missed by all. Services will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Adams Funeral Home, 64 Broad Street, Woodstown, NJ 08098. Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing beginning at 10:00 AM, followed by the service at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at Friendship Cemetery in Monroeville.
