Joan Odell Obituary

Joan Ann Odell entered into eternal rest on December 10, 2024 at the age of 85 after a long and complex battle with cancer and heart disease. She was born in 1939 in Washington, DC to Virginia and Hardee Franklin Harrell, Jr. She graduated from Northwestern Senior High School in Maryland. Joan married William Langdon in 1958. They had two children; Debra Ann and Dawn Marie. Dawn died of leukemia in 1966. They were divorced in the late 1960's. Joan then married Don Everett Keeble in the early 1980's. Don passed away in 2007 of bone cancer. Joan Married Colonel Lawrence Odell, USAF Retired, in September 2016.

Larry and Joan traveled extensively in their RV visiting relatives, historic sites and National parks throughout the US.

Joan worked at the TIE and Hecht Companies as a Customer Service Representative at Koons-Sheehy Ford in Maryland, before moving to Rome, NY in 2008. Joan then worked as a Singer/Viking/Phaff Sewing Machine Sales Representative at JoAnn Fabrics in New Hartford, NY before retiring in 2016. During their winters in Texas Joan served as a volunteer on the USS Lexington Museum in Corpus Christi. Her many hobbies included quilting, cross stitchery, art, sewing, reading, music, puzzles and travel.

Joan was preceded in death by her first husband William and her second husband Don, brothers Hardee and Donald Harrell, and daughter

Dawn. She is survived by her husband Lawrence (Larry), sister Virginia Rutledge, brother James (Moe) Harrell, daughter Debra Ann Roberts, and grandson Chris Faller.

Her wish was to have no public visitation or viewing and will be entered to rest at Rome Cemetery at a private family ceremony. An invitational celebration of life will be held at the family's convenience at a future date. Donations in her name to the American Cancer Society, the SUNY Upstate NY Cancer Center (Syracuse, NY), or the Roswell Park Cancer Center (Buffalo, NY) are strongly encouraged in lieu of flowers. Condolences may be addressed to the family via the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home Inc., 418 N. George Street, Rome, NY 13440.
