Joan Penrod, beloved daughter, sister, friend, and beautiful person departed this world peacefully at her home in Ogden, Utah on Thursday January 25, 2024. Joan was born on December 4, 1956 in Ogden, Utah, the second of seven children of George Gary and Elaine Dye Penrod.
Joan attended Birch Creek Elementary School, South Ogden Junior High, and graduated from Bonneville High School in 1975. Joan got her bachelor's degree in English from Utah State University in Logan, following which she received her Law degree graduating from the University of Utah Law School in 1984.
After graduating law school, Joan moved to Houston, TX, where she worked as a corporate Lawyer for 10 plus years. Joan loved to travel she went on a famous trip to Tahiti and Bora Bora with Brice, Kendra, and Whitney. She also enjoyed scuba diving and skiing during these years. Joan also worked on her pilot's license and owned an airplane with her brother, and they made frequent flights from Houston to Ogden and back together. Joan moved back to Ogden in 1997 where she continued her legal work.
Coming from a large family, Joan had many nephews and nieces and she dearly loved spending time together with them playing games, watching movies, and otherwise enjoying each other's company. Joan also loved to read and write. She was working on documenting her mother’s life in the last years.
Joan is survived by four siblings, Jeff, Todd, Jason, and Jenny; 13 nieces and nephews; and many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Brice and Julie; and sister-in-law, Kendra.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday February 3, 2024, from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Community Center at Lindquist’s Ogden Building, 3434 Washington Blvd.
This will be a joint Celebration of Life for both Joan and our dearly beloved friend and adopted family member Nick Wallwork who recently passed. Casual attire please.
