Joan Pope, age 92, of Mountain City, TN passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Mountain City Care Center. She was born September 25, 1931 in Roan Mountain, TN to the late Glen and Evelyn Pritchard. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her grandmother who raised her, Emma Pritchard; her husband, Russell Pope; sisters, Peggy Pritchard, Glenda Pine; and brothers, Robert Pritchard, Gaines Pritchard, Freddy Mast; and son-in-law, Shirl Dyer.
Joan loved her yard, especially her statues and flowers. Her family was the most important thing to her. Joan loved the Lord and enjoyed going to church while she was able. She also liked music and singing, and enjoyed watching westerns and listening to Marty Stewart.
Those left to cherish her memories include her daughters, Wilma Dyer, Willa Deane Parlier (Charles), Wanda Cress (Tommy); son, Bill Pope (Joyce); sisters, Vickie Robinson (Jimmy), Jean Mast; brother, Bill Pritchard; grandchildren, Kim Pope (Blake), Greg Pope (Christal), Brian Dyer (Jessica), Shannon Poe, Alisha Norris (Joey), Matthew Cress (Kayla), and Chad Parlier; great-grandchildren, Mariah Dyer, Dominic Kelley, Talan Poe, Eli Norris, Neyland Dyer, Cooper Cress, and Edward Page; special friends, Bobby Tumblty, Willa Trivette, Dwight and Susan Briggs, Thomas and Elisa Hoelscher, Sam and Leann Baker; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Thomas Hoelscher officiating. The burial will follow at the Phillippi Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matthew Cress, Brian Dyer, Chad Parlier, Dominic Kelley, Joey Norris, Tommy Cress, and Charles Parlier. Honorary pallbearers are Greg Pope, Talan Poe, Eli Norris, Cooper Cress, Neyland Dyer, and Richard Osborne.
At other times family and friends may visit the home of her daughter Wanda on Pleasant Valley Road.
