Joan Rita Ronning, age 93, of Ashland, WI, passed away with her loving family by her side on Monday, July 21, 2025 at Ashland Health Services. Joan was born at home in Ashland, WI, on August 16, 1931, the daughter of Nicholas P. and Loretta E. (Hruska) Kupczyk.
Joan was a proud 1949 graduate of DePadua High School and a lifelong member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. On Feb 3, 1951, she married Donald E. (Weed) Ronning. They were together for 28 years.
Joan's spare time was spent gardening, traveling, playing a competitive game of cards with her friends, bowling, camping with family, participating in the OLL choir, and volunteering at the hospital thrift store. Over the years, Joan worked at a variety of businesses outside the home, including the Northland College Print Shop, St Agnes Grade School (OLL) Cafeteria, Edward Jones, and Star Liquor.
Joan was the dear mother of Susan (George) Haynes, Carol (Mark) Pospychalla, Eugene "Crunch" (Jean) Ronning, and Michael (Nina) Ronning. Joan was also blessed with 8 grandchildren: Shannon Kay, Kelly (Ed) McKillup, Kara (Mike) Lund, Tyler (Laura) Jensen, Jason Ronning, Jennifer (Andy) Wuebben, Brian (Tessa) Ronning and Daniel Ronning; eleven great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by one brother-in-law, John "Yunko" Carlson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings: Peter (Ellamae) Kupczyk, Donald (Ethel) Kupczyk, Shirley "Perry" Kupczyk, Joyce (John) Carlson, and Lois (William) Croteau.

A private memorial service for Joan will take place at a later date.
