Joan Elaine Sample, age 73, of Gulfport, passed away on January 21, 2024.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, William, Sample, Sr; 2 sons, Bryan Sample and William Sample, Jr; a grandson, William Sample, III; her father, Dorrance Dickens; her mother, Georgette Gill; and a sister-in-law, Gail Dickens.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Rhonda Herrmann (Mike), Donna Tanner (Ed), and Tammie Miller (Allan); a brother, Elmer Dickens; her grandchildren, Amanda Moran (JE), Melissa Bryant (Chad), Michael Herrmann, Jr (Christina), Mark Herrmann (Rachel), Kyle Tanner, Lisa Ball (Scott), Zach Sample, Ethan McMillan, Colton Miller, Keaton Miller, Maddox Miller, Joe Tanner, Kathy Tanner, Michael Tanner, Matt Tanner (Sherry); her great-grandchildren, Brooke Bryant, Kaylee Bryant, John Michael Moran, Emily Moran, Madelynn Moran, Blaine Herrmann, Sydney Herrmann, Hannah Herrmann, Finley Herrmann, Aaliyah Ball, Kylee Ball, William Sample, IV, and Taylor Andes; nieces and nephews, Matt Dickens, Marc Dickens, Holly Ford, Debby Bradley, Dona White, and Dana Stockstill; and other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Sample is a native a lifelong resident of Gulfport and was a graduate of St. John High School. She was the owner/operator of Sample Tax Service for 45 years. She enjoyed shopping, traveling to the mountains, and loved to celebrate Christmas with her family. Mrs. Sample enjoyed watching Braves baseball and Christian movies. She was interested in learning more about her Catholic religion. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

Visitation will be on Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 5 – 7 pm at the Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am Monday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will be in Finley Cemetery.
