Joan Schalk

Joan Schalk, born on March 5, 1933, in Nassau, New York, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and faith that touched everyone who knew her.

Joan shared a beautiful and enduring love with her husband, Charles Schalk. Together they built a life centered around family and raised four children. Their bond was something truly special, a love that was not only cherished by them but also shared with and witnessed by their children. After Charles passed away in 2015, Joan continued on with strength and grace, always holding close the hope of the day she would see him again.

Family was the center of Joan's life. She had a big heart and a remarkable way of making everyone feel welcome, valued, and loved. Her warmth and compassion naturally drew people to her, and she always knew how to lift someone's spirits. She carried a wonderful sense of humor and never missed an opportunity to make someone laugh-especially when they needed it most.

Joan had a deep faith and a strong relationship with God that guided her throughout her life. One of her greatest passions was serving others as a chapel aide for 25 years, where she devoted her time to comforting people during difficult moments and offering them kindness, support, and prayer. She also served as a Eucharistic minister at Saint Michael's Church, continuing her mission of faith and service to others.

Wherever Joan lived, she made sure there was a garden. She loved nurturing flowers and plants, finding peace and joy in watching things grow. She also loved music and dancing, and she carried a lively spirit that brought joy to gatherings with family and friends.

Joan is survived by her loving children: Glenn Schalk and his wife Liz; Arlene and her husband James; Charles and his wife Laura; and the loving memory of her late son Greg and his wife Cheryl. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Danielle, Joseph, Richard, Connor, Collin, Bobby, Tommy, Steven, Megan, and Jonathan, and she was also blessed with several great-grandchildren.

Joan's life was defined by faith, love, compassion, and laughter. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her, but her spirit and the love she gave so freely will live on in their hearts forever.
