Joan Sneed Obituary
LANCASTER, S.C. - Mrs. Joan Rorie Sneed, age 85, passed away peacefully on Nov. 11, 2025.
Born Dec. 10, 1939 in Union County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Preston and Pearl Nash Rorie.
She is survived by a son, Norris P. Sneed (Donna) of Blountville, TN; a brother, Cecil W. Rorie (Martha) of Jefferson, S.C.; her life partner Earl R. Faulkenberry; and her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Horace Rorie; her husband of 44 years, Calvin H. Sneed; a son, Morris C Sneed; a great-granddaughter and a brother and sister-in-law, Charles P. and Linda S. Rorie.
Joan lived a life of deep faith, hard work and love for her family and many friends. Under that strong will she possessed, she was a generous and caring soul. She had a heart for those less fortunate and often did for others with never an expectation of reciprocity. For many years she owned and operated Joan's Hair Fashions. She loved to travel, sing, and share her talent in her church choir and with her family. Her cooking skills were well known and as one fellow church member once said of her: "In her Lifetime she probably fed half of Lancaster County."
Her family and friends will miss her but we look forward to a future reunion. In the meantime, we will remember the love and straight talk she freely gave and cherish the many memories we shared together.
Visitation will be 12-1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025 at Jerry Hartley Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.
The best memorial gift you could offer Joan is to love your neighbor and do something good for someone today.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Lancaster Grove, White Oak Manor, Hospice of Lancaster and the Piedmont and Jerry Hartley Funeral Home for their loving support and care as she travelled the last miles of her earthly journey.
Funeral Services will be directed by Jerry Hartley Funeral Home, 684 Hubbard Drive, Lancaster. Phone 803-285-8000.
