Joan Mae Springborg passed away on February 6th, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy defined by devotion, resilience, and deep family roots. She was born on May 16th, 1933 to Edward and Mildred (Timm) Schiller and was the second born of seventeen children. Growing up in a large family helped shape Joan's strong sense of responsibility, care for others, and lifelong commitment to family.
Joan attended Mankato Teachers College and graduated in 1953. In that same year, she married Irwin "Boots" Fuller, and together they began raising their family. Joan embraced motherhood wholeheartedly, welcoming four children: Ricky, Shauna, Scott, and Mark.
In her younger years, Joan loved to sew and do needlework, creating with her hands and putting love in everything she made. Even making dresses for her daughter!
Throughout her working years, Joan was known for her reliability and attention to detail. She worked for R&S Insurance in Stoughton WI, Atwood-Smith Realty, and later at Mankato State University in
Mankato, Minnesota, where she served as an admissions clerk until her retirement.
Later in life, Joan was united in marriage to Louis Springborg on April 19, 1986, in
Mankato, Minnesota. Joan and Louie shared a love of camping and adventure and spent many happy years as snowbirds, wintering in Arizona during their retirement. They shared a life full of love, laughter and adventure.
Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband, Louis Springborg; her parents, Edward and Mildred Schiller; her son, Rick Fuller; and her siblings Roberta Johnson, LouAnn Leopold, Eileen Raddatz, Lola Dahmes, David Schiller, Doug Schiller, Kay Schmidt, Dennis Schiller, and Charles Schiller.
She is survived by her children, Shauna (Mike) Bemis, Scott (Brenda) Fuller, and Mark Fuller; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren who affectionately called her "GG", even great, great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Don (Margaret) Schiller, Janice Kettner, Lorene Elg, Darvin (Ardis) Schiller, Elizabeth (Lloyd) Jacobson, Jolene Krueger, and Dan (Vicki) Schiller, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Joan especially enjoyed playing cards. She was always quick to remind everyone that she definitely never cheated-and absolutely never had secret codes with her partners about what suit to lay down next. Those card games brought laughter, competition, and many cherished memories to her family and friends. She was a card shark or as it is known around the family "Shard Cark" and could count cards like a professional poker player.
Joan's life was deeply rooted in family. She carried a quiet strength, high fashion, steady presence, and a sense of humor that made time spent with her memorable. Her legacy lives on through the many generations she loved and influenced.
Her memory will be cherished, her stories retold, and her spirit carried forward by all who knew her. May you have a glass of Brandy and a game of Bridge in memory of her.
The Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026 at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. The visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
