Joan Corrine Remmers Steffener, age 94, of rural Sperry, died peacefully Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Azria Health Prairie Ridge in Mediapolis, Iowa.

Born April 19, 1931, she was the daughter of Henry and Lena Hadler Remmers. On April 24, 1949, she married Arthur Steffener in Sperry.

She was a 1948 graduate of Sperry High School. Over the years, Joan worked for The National Research Bureau, Sperry Store, Park Manor Laundry Service, and That Extra Size Shop, before retiring from JCPenney's. She also farmed alongside her husband and son.

Joan served as a Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Coordinator, Church Choir, Church Board Trustee, and a member of UMW: United Methodist Women and The Red Hat Society.

She was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed attending her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren's events; the Des Moines County Fair; reading; scrapbooking for her family; yard work; gardening; animals, especially dogs; her beloved Bassett Hounds Duchess; and country living.

Survivors include daughter-in-law: Mary Steffener of Sperry; grandsons: Darren (Erin) Steffener of Mediapolis, Nathan (Natalie) Steffener of Sperry, and Jordan Steffener of Sperry; granddaughter Jacqueline (Dilan) Beaird of Sperry; great grandchildren: Haley Ann Steffener, Ella Jayne Steffener, Luke David Steffener, Addison Joan Steffener, Jessica Claire Steffener, Hallie Ray Beaird, and Baby Beaird due in January of '26; two nieces: Karen (Butch) Powers of Burlington and Bette (Denny) Russell of Sperry; one nephew, Richard (Holly) Steffener of Mediapolis; and several great nieces and nephews.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband Art, three sons: Michael, David, and Daniel; and her parents.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The memorial service for Mrs. Steffener will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at Sperry Global Methodist Church with Tracey Burgus officiating. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Sperry Global Methodist Church.
