Joan Violet Stermer, aged 85, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 27, 1939, Joan's unwavering spirit and boundless warmth touched the lives of everyone she knew.
Joan was the cherished wife of the late Kenneth Stermer. Their remarkable marriage spanned 65 years, a testament to their deep love and commitment. She was a devoted mother to Denise Carter and her husband Jeffrey, and to Kenneth Stermer, Jr. Joan's role as a caring grandmother to Sarah, Kelsey, Rachel, and Jesse was one of the joys of her life, and she cherished every moment with her great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Aiden and Aria.
For over 25 years, Joan dedicated her patience and kindness to assisting at The Maryland School for the Blind, where she made a significant impact in the lives of many students. Her friendly, generous, and selfless nature was not only felt at work but rippled throughout her community.
Joan found pleasure in the simple things, from the sun-soaked shores of Myrtle Beach to the familiar comfort of 8th Street in Ocean City, where she loved to people-watch, just as she did with her father. The Blue Ridge Mountains held a special place in her heart for the many family excursions they enabled. Every morning, her laughter and stories filled the local McDonald's as she enjoyed Bingo with friends.
We celebrate Joan Violet Stermer's remarkable journey through life, and while she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love and service remains with us.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Joan's life at the family owned Evans Life Celebration Home - 8800 Harford Road, Parkville MD 21234, for a Receiving of Friends on Saturday, November 23rd 2024, from 10:00 am-12:00 noon. A Memorial Service will follow the gathering at 12:00 noon.

Joan was a true angel. A person that never judged and was full of empathy. She spoke to family, friends and strangers with the same respect. A kind and unconditionally loving person to her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. I will always remember her laugh and how other people she knew embraced her. She is peaceful and happy now.
