Joan Elizabeth Wyskiel was born on February 18, 1945 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan to Charles and Carmel (Meno) Brazzel. Joan, who resided in Dearborn, Michigan, passed away on March 2, 2025 at the age of 80. Beloved wife of John R. Wyskiel for 47 years. Loving mother of Beth (Matt) Morris, Terri Wyskiel, Johnny (Jill) Wyskiel, and Dan Wyskiel. Dear sister of John Brazzel. Dearest grandmother of Ariana Morris, Anthony Morris, and Julia Wyskiel. Joan was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Janet Smith and Thomas Brazzel. Joan was also survived by many other loving family and friends.
Joan spent her life devoted to caring for others, starting with becoming an Immaculate Heart of Mary Sister. She taught elementary school children in Detroit, then began to work as part of the Detroit-Recife Mission in Brazil as a nurse, where she would remain focused on the poorer population for 8 years. There she met the love of her life, John, who was also part of the mission as a priest. They moved back to the town she grew up in where they had four children. Desiring to expose her children to the less fortunate in the world, the family spent 3 years in Bolivia and Venezuela working with the Maryknoll Lay Mission Program. After returning to the US, she would then spend her time as a hospice chaplain, pastoral administrator, and women's shelter volunteer.
On Saturday, March 8th, family will receive guests from 12-3pm at Allegria Village Chapel, 15101C Ford Rd, Dearborn, MI 48126. There will be a brief service at 12:30. Donations may be made to St. Agatha Food Pantry c/o Our Lady of Consolata Parish, P.O. Box 139 Gagetown, MI 48735. Please share memories and/or leave condolences on Joan's guestbook on her tribute wall.
