Joanie Kernan of Gonzales passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, January 9, 2025. She was born to Theresa Cedotal and Thomas Dyer on January 30, 1951. Joanie is survived by her husband of 56 years, Mark Kernan, Sr., her five children, Jennifer, Dana, Karri, Lindsey & fiancé’, Reggie Brown, & Mark, Jr. & wife, Britanie. 16 Grandchildren: Kaleb Kernan, & fiancé’, Bailey Dupin, Trace Huber, Heidi & Liam Hernandez, Cade, Toni & Karlee Vaughn, Kyler Kimble, & fiancé’, Bruce McLaughlin, Jade Fontenot, Spencer, Brody, Ezra & Asher Kernan, Kamryn & Layne Swanson, Allena Welch, and 4 Great Grandchildren: Greyson Kernan & Dahlia, Alayna & Kaizen McLaughlin, and brother, Clarence “CJ” Burns. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and others who were very special to her.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Theresa Cedotal, father, Thomas Dyer, by her mother-in-law, Emily Kernan, father-in-law, Jennings Kernan, brother, Warren “Sonny Boy” Burns, sisters, Claudette Wilson & Phyllis Hebert, sister-in-law, Carol Burns, special aunt, Dotsie Mae Babin, great grandchild, Malachi McLaughlin.

Joanie was a follower of Jesus Christ and played an active role in bringing her family members to Jesus. She was a homemaker for the majority of her life, raising her children and being an active part in her grandchildren’s lives. 

Services will be at Joanie’s church, Christ Healing Community, 404 W. Pine St., Gonzales, LA 70737, on Thursday, January 16, 2025, with visitation from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. and a service will be at 5:00 p.m.
