Joann Chunn was born on Aug 5, 1953 in Memphis, TN, to parents James A. and Helen Chunn. She was born with Spina Bifida and struggled with the disability for life.
As a young teenager Joann attended Whitten Jr High school and Council McCluer Academy and grew up in South Jackson. Joann was very intelligent and graduated with Honors from correspondence class's. Public schools were not geared toward the disabled student at that time. Joann was a strong individual and in time earned her driver's license and learned how to drive.
She went to work for the Ridgeland Police Dept as a dispatcher, and as a Court service deputy clerk, retiring after 25 years of service. As an adult she was a resident of Ridgeland and later of Canton, MS. There was never a day that Joann did not have a smile on her face. Her hobby was the breeding of Pomeranian Puppies. Her downside was not wanting to sell them when that time came. Joann's faith in Jesus Christ was her strength which guided her life, through her time on this earth.
Joann is preceded in death by her parents, James and Helen Chunn of Canton, MS. She is survived by her brothers Rickey Chunn of Jackson, MS, Gary Chunn of Ridgeland, Mr. Kevin and Julie Chunn of Canton, MS, and her sister Phyllis (Chunn) Edwards of Little Rock, AR, Nephews Daniel Edwards, Shaun Chunn, Laura (Edwards) Harrell, and Courtnee Chunn. She was much loved and will be sorely missed.
