McClain, JoAnn, 74, of Tampa, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2009. JoAnn was born in Akron, Ohio and grew up in the beautiful hills of Hiltons, Va., where her tomboy soul spent time in the Holston River. She was preceded in death by her father; Clarence Burton (Burt) Carter, mother; Nellie McCall, and her loving stepmother; Mollie G. Carter. JoAnn leaves behind 3 daughters; Charlene and her husband Dr. Carl Bendeck of Kingsport, Tn., Maureen and her husband Edmund Visneski of Kingsport, Tn., and Colleene and her husband Jim Kershner of Tampa; her dear fomer husband, Dale McClain of Kingsport, Tn.; 5 loving grandchildren, Caitlin JoAnn Bendeck, Daniel Bendeck, Christopher Bendeck, Nick Bendeck, and Makayla Kershner; a brother, Bill Carter and his family in Sullivan, Ohio; cousins, Patsy Mason and Willirae Gardner of Hiltons, Va; and her loving dog Ruben. JoAnn’s family would like to thank all of her friends at Acorn Trace, especially Barbara Van Matre, for all of her special assistance. They would also like to express their gratitude to the MICU Nursing Staff at St. Joseph's Hospital for making her last days comfortable. We would like to celebrate the life of JoAnn McClain by receiving friends and family from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday (April 18, 2009) at Darthula Baptist Church in Hiltons, Va. • North on JB Dennis – go about 7 miles from Stone Drive (11W) interchange • Right on Rt. 58 toward Bristol – go about 5 miles • Left on 689 (Lunsford Mill Rd) – before the bridge • Left on Ann Goode Hwy – before the bridge • Darthula Baptist Church is on the Left on Ann Goode Hwy In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in JoAnn’s name to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America.
