Joann McMurray

SALEM - Joann McMurray, 82, passed away on November 11, 2025, at Masternick Memorial Health Care in New Middletown.
Born on May 3, 1943 in Chicago, IL, Joann was the daughter of Walter and Martha (Danczyk) Skortz, and was raised in Chicago.
On October 18, 1959, Joann wed Stanley A. McMurray, embarking on a journey that would span 66 years and numerous relocations due to his military career. In the late 1970s, the couple settled in Columbiana County, where Joann embraced her roles as a dedicated wife, mother, and grandma. Her commitment to her family was the cornerstone of her existence, and she poured her entire heart into caring for them.
As a military wife, Joann was passionate in supporting veterans' organizations and programs. Her passing on Veteran's Day is fitting as it mirrors her lifelong support for veterans. Joann was a former auxiliary member of the Washingtonville Police Department and the Jerusalem Lutheran Church. Always up for an adventure, Joann loved going on outings, traveling, and shopping with family and friends.
In addition to her husband, Stanley, Joann is survived by her daughters, Debbie (David Robbins) McMaster Robbins of North Carolina, Cindy (Thomas) Corey of Dover, and Tammy (Daniel) Volpe of Salem; sons, Stanley P. (Rhiamie) of New Mexico and Shawn (Sheri) McMurray of Conneaut; siblings, Mary (Norman) West of Illinois, Raymond Skortz of Florida, and Kenneth Skortz of Kentucky; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildrem, whom she loved deeply; and her extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Joann was preceded in death by her brother, Arthur Skortz, son-in-law, Jeffrey McMaster; sister-in-law, Sue Skortz; and great-grandchild, Kaitlin Redmond.
Family and friends will be received from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home, 1014 E. State St., Salem, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Highlandtown Cemetery.
Over the past several years, Joann has enjoyed her stay at Masternick Memorial Health Care and loved the camraderie with her friends and participating in activities, especially playing bingo.
